Draft Mode

Accountability and post-draft assessment to help you finish your first draft.

Writing a first draft can feel lonely, overwhelming, and easy to put off—especially without accountability or someone to check in with along the way.

The Draft Mode is designed for writers who are ready to commit to finishing their manuscript and want steady support, structure, and professional insight while they do it.

Stay Accountable and Keep Moving Forward

This isn’t about writing perfectly. It’s about showing up, staying consistent, and getting the draft written.

Over the course of 12 weeks, I’ll help you stay accountable to your writing goals while keeping the focus on forward momentum. Once your draft is complete, you’ll receive thoughtful, big-picture editorial feedback to help you understand what you’ve created and what comes next.

12 Weeks of Structured Support

Together, we’ll set realistic weekly writing goals based on your project and target word count. Weekly submissions are expected—either by chapter or word count—to help you maintain momentum and follow through on your commitment to finishing your draft.

Weekly Check-Ins (30 Minutes Each)

You’ll meet with me once a week for a scheduled 30-minute phone or video call. These check-ins are designed to:

  • Keep you accountable to your writing goals

  • Talk through moments where you feel stuck or unsure

  • Ask questions about story structure or direction

  • Receive encouragement and steady support as you draft

This is a focused, supportive space—not in-depth coaching or co-writing—but a place to talk through challenges and keep moving forward.

Chapter-by-Chapter Editorial Assessments

As you submit your work, I’ll review each chapter with a big-picture lens. Feedback is provided through editorial assessment letters, not in-line edits.

Each chapter assessment focuses on:

Dark blue hand-drawn checkmark indicating completion or success.

Scene purpose and structure

Stylized dark blue checkmark symbol, indicating approval, completion, or correctness.

Character development and progression

A Note About First Drafts

First drafts are meant to be messy. During this process, I’m not evaluating polished prose or sentence-level craft. The First Draft Lab is completion—not perfection.

Is this the right fit for you?

    • Want accountability to finish their first draft

    • Are willing to commit to weekly submissions and check-ins

    • Understand that first drafts are imperfect by design

    • Want big-picture editorial insight after the draft is complete

    • Are serious about finishing their manuscript

    • Are looking for line edits or developmental edits

    • Want prose-level feedback while drafting

    • Prefer a flexible, drop-in style of support

    • Aren’t ready to commit to a consistent writing schedule

Commitment & Availability

The First Draft Lab is a high-touch service with limited availability. It’s designed for writers who are ready to commit to the full 12-week process. Details around scheduling and expectations will be discussed during our initial conversation.
